Pheasant Crossing

Country highway going north

South wind blowing

Woman driving

Colorful, beautiful large bird

Lots of feathers

Golds, browns, tans, blacks, whites, reds

Abruptly flaps wildly desperately

Across the road

Swift approaching car

Wind too strong

Neck reaches out pulling the body forward

Colors flash in the sun

Just narrowly slips past

Woman breathes a sigh

Relieved while amazed

At the beauty

Of a free pheasant
